Kurinuki is a traditional Japanese handbuilding pottery technique that translates to "hollowing out" or "carving out". A solid block of clay is carved away inside and out to create unique, rustic and organic forms like cups, bowls and boxes. It is a meditative  process focusing on form, texture, and the beauty of imperfection.

This day we will work with the kurinuki technique, but you are free to shape the clay however you like. Examples of what you can make are cups, bowls, boxes, salt cellar,  matcha bowls, sculptures and figures.

At the workshop a selection of clay types will be available.

Program

  • 9.30 -10.00 welcome - coffee/ tea
  • Introduction to the Kurinuki technique
  • First step - preparing the clay
  • lunch - Bring your own lunch or get lunch from Anne & Max (we order in the morning)
  • second step - carving and shaping the creations

The creations will be fired and glazed with a transparent glaze after the workshop. If you want to glaze your creations yourself, this can be arranged separately.
