Kurinuki is a traditional Japanese handbuilding pottery technique that translates to "hollowing out" or "carving out". A solid block of clay is carved away inside and out to create unique, rustic and organic forms like cups, bowls and boxes. It is a meditative process focusing on form, texture, and the beauty of imperfection.
This day we will work with the kurinuki technique, but you are free to shape the clay however you like. Examples of what you can make are cups, bowls, boxes, salt cellar, matcha bowls, sculptures and figures.
At the workshop a selection of clay types will be available.

Slowness and thoroughness are virtues in the atelier on Laan van Meerdervoort. The philosophy is rooted in the luxury of the private moment where the interaction between texture and shape gives a touch of joy. The passion is in the detail.
