Studio Babette is a privately run ceramic studio with room for immersion and creativity. The workshop offers weekly courses, private lessons and theme specialised workshops. If you would like to immerse yourself in clay on your own, Open Studio Time is an option.
*
Focus
The focus is on the classic handbuilding techniques which includes; building with slabs, coils, and pinch-pots. Although our work is based on the old techniques that have been used since humans began to shape clay, time does not stand still. In the studio we have curiosity about clay's capabilities. Several different materials and tools for shaping and decorating are available.
*
In the weekly courses the teaching groups are small. In these courses you will gain skills and a good base for working with your own ideas. If you just need to come and relax with the clay without too much planning, it is always an option to follow the projects shown step by step.
*
If you would like the benefit of flexibility, you are welcome to make an appointment for a private lesson. This can be an introduction to clay or we can put together a course based on your wishes.
*
Potter’s wheel
As the focus in the studio is on clay handbuilding, only two wheels are available. The wheels are free to use in the Open Studio Time and when conditions permit in the weekly courses. The wheel is a good tool to use when round creations are made and can be a base for further work.
*
It takes practice to master the wheel. If you would like an introduction or develop your skills, it is possible to book private lessons.

When we meet magic happens
At Studio Babette we would like to embrace the cultures and traditions of the world in shaping clay. People all over the world have been shaping clay for many thousands of years. Each culture has its own traditions and ways of working with the clay. In The Hague there is a diversity of cultures that Studio Babette benefits from and that makes the workshop a vibrant place where experiences and ideas are exchanged and developed.
