The clay handbuilding course is for those who would like to work with clay in a relaxed atmosphere once a week. In the course you will learn how to handle the clay in all phases from a soft piece to a finished item.
A course consists of five or four lessons. The first four (or three) lessons are for creating. In the beginning of each lesson the process in a handbuilding project will be shown. The projects are usually based on general techniques. It could be pieces built from a slab of clay, a pinch bowl or built up with coils. You are welcome to modify the projects or bring your own ideas. I will recommend, however, that you follow the instructions in your first course.
Before the fifth lesson all finished items will be fired in a bisque firing and will be ready to be glazed.
The glaze firing takes place in the days after the last lesson and your finished items will typically be ready for pick-up the following week.
Some of the courses are four or six weeks. In these courses glazing still takes place in the last lesson.
The clay cost is 2,5 euro per kg.
Included in the cost of the course is glaze, firing and tea/coffee.
- It is only creations made in the course which will be fired
- It is not possible to use the potter's wheel in the course
Slowness and thoroughness are virtues in the atelier on Laan van Meerdervoort. The philosophy is rooted in the luxury of the private moment where the interaction between texture and shape gives a touch of joy. The passion is in the detail.
